This project analyzes Tribal-state/local consultation in California. The project specifically focuses on two California laws that require state agencies and local governments to consult with Native American Tribes: Assembly Bill 52 and Senate Bill 18.

Recent Project Updates:

  • Conducted background interviews with 37 Tribal, state, and local officials as well as with other subject matter experts
  • Held 2nd Project Steering Committee meeting on 2/28/23
  • Case study research with partner Tribes: selecting key examples of state/local consultation
