The New Hampshire Healthy Homes and Lead Poisoning Prevention Program (HHLPPP), located within the state Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public Health Services, offers resources to help address the risk of lead poisoning and other health and safety issues that come from the home environment.
For three decades, ELI’s Indoor Environments & Green Buildings Program has helped spur the adoption of policies and programs that make buildings greener and healthier places to live, learn, and work. We focus especially on improving the quality of the indoor environment.
The Importance of Indoor Environmental Quality. Most of our exposure to pollutants occurs indoors. This may not be surprising, given that people in the U.S. spend about 87% of their time inside buildings.

District of Columbia law (D.C. Code § 6–1409) authorizes the Mayor to issue proposed rules to amend the District’s construction codes, to be submitted for review by the D.C. Council. Rules adopted by the city in 2020 (12 D.C. Mun. Regs. 12-B-F App.
The New Jersey Department of Health (NJ DOH) provides information on a variety of indoor environmental issues. The agency’s Environmental and Occupational Health Surveillance Program has developed educational materials for reducing exposure to hazardous chemicals in child care centers, with a focus on cleaning products, pesticides, and air fresheners.
The Washington State Department of Health (WA DOH) is a leader in providing guidance on proper cleaning and disinfecting practices in public spaces, including in schools and classrooms. The state has developed resources on best practices for preventing the spread of germs while reducing exposure to harsh chemicals that can be harmful to health in their own right.
