Barren Island's Not Forgotten

Volume 16, Issue 6, Page 12
Summary

Barren Island is a lonely, deserted place in Chesapeake Bay, but we see the footprints of people there from abandoned buildings, an unused airstrip of an old hunting club, and trash washed up on its shores. Because of an extensive federal, state, and private partnership, flourishing wildlife on the 175-acre Barren Island are now protected as part of the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge.
