The forum was held at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace Conference Center in Washington, DC, July 11-12, 2005. The forum was co-sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Environmental Law Institute. It was designed to bring together experts in wetland mitigation banking with those in the water quality trading community to facilitate a dialogue on stimulating future markets in water quality trading.
The main objectives of the forum were to:
- Advance point/nonpoint source trading on a watershed scale by identifying ‘lessons learned’ from wetland mitigation banking; and
- Explore the potential role wetlands can play in providing water quality credits as part of a watershed scale trading program.
