Jessie Sugarman is a Policy Analyst at ELI; in this role, she primarily supports the Nashville Food Waste Initiative, developing model policies and ordinances to help municipalities reduce food waste. From July 2020 through July 2022, Jessie served as a Research Associate, during which time her projects included food waste as well as ELI’s Ocean Program, Innovation Lab, and Pro Bono Clearinghouse.

Before joining ELI, Jessie conducted research on investor-owned utilities and the climate change countermovement with Brown University’s Climate and Development Lab. While at Brown, Jessie also helped develop and implement programming on environmental science and advocacy for Providence high school students. Her other work on research and policy development includes deep decarbonization in New England, as well as environmental best management practices in the agricultural sector. Jessie grew up outside of Boston, Massachusetts and graduated in May 2020 with a B.A. in Public Policy.
