Akielly Hu joined the Environmental Law Institute as a Research Associate in August 2019. She is currently involved in projects supporting compensatory mitigation programs for wetlands conservation, environmental public interest litigation in China, extreme heat adaptation in cities, and potential legal reforms of the UNCLOS, among others. Before joining ELI, Akielly conducted independent research investigating the socioeconomic and environmental effects of an NGO’s conservation and development program in Ecuador. She has also supported environmental education initiatives at a heritage site in Thailand, and researched sustainability issues of palm oil in Indonesia. Akielly grew up near Seattle, Washington and graduated with a BA in Global Affairs from Yale University.
