Akielly Hu joined the Environmental Law Institute as a Research Associate in August 2019. She is currently involved in projects supporting compensatory mitigation programs for wetlands conservation, food waste-related actions for municipal climate action plans, and environmental public interest litigation in China, among others. She also contributes to ELI publications including The Environmental Forum, Vibrant Environment Blog, and Environmental Law Reporter. Before joining ELI, Akielly conducted independent research investigating the socioeconomic and environmental effects of an NGO’s conservation and development program in Ecuador. She has also supported environmental education initiatives at a heritage site in Thailand, and researched sustainability issues of palm oil in Indonesia. Akielly grew up near Seattle, Washington and graduated with a BA in Global Affairs from Yale University.
