Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) is an umbrella term for thousands of potentially toxic “forever” chemicals found in many everyday household items and packaging of common items. The Biden administration, as well as many states, local community groups, and the private sector have prioritized addressing PFAS, especially as more research sheds light on the potential harm to human health and the environment.
Join the Environmental Law Institute and expert panelists to explore how the legal community, private sector, states, communities, and the federal government are identifying and remediating potential PFAS contamination. Expert panelists will provide an overview of private sector technologies designed to identify PFAS contamination, as well as practical considerations on the impact of PFAS on transactional work, including environmental due diligence. Panelists will highlight recent state actions such as bans on particular uses of PFAS (firefighting foam, food packaging) and elevate the public's understanding of the extent of the PFAS contamination problem. Finally, panelists will review the environmental justice implications of PFAS contamination, and especially highlight the tools and resources available to communities.
