Wyatt Penfold is a fourth-generation farmer in Idaho’s Teton Valley and an advocate for water conservation in agriculture. As one of the founders and chair of the Teton Basin Water Users Association, he has united farmers, conservationists, and local leaders to address declining aquifers and shrinking wetlands. Wyatt champions regenerative agriculture and innovative practices like incentivized incidental groundwater recharge, helping to restore late-season flows to the Teton River and improve the long-term viability of farming in the region. Committed to fostering collaboration, Wyatt has built bridges between the agricultural and environmental communities in the Teton Valley. Under his leadership, the Association developed an incentive program that makes flood irrigation financially feasible for farmers while benefiting wetland ecosystems. He not only advocates for these practices but also implements them on his own farm, which is recognized as a model for sustainable water and land management. Wyatt’s work exemplifies how conservation and agriculture can thrive together in the Teton Valley.
