(Washington, DC) — ELI board Chairman William M. Eichbaum is pleased to announce the appointment of eight outstanding individuals to the Institute’s Board of Directors for the 2010-2012 term of service.
James R. Buckley, Lockheed Martin’s chief environment, safety and health counsel, specializes in managing environmental and other complex litigation matters. Buckley’s previous experience includes work as a lawyer in a major firm in Los Angeles, and work in the chemical industry as a process development engineer.
Laurie Burt serves as Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP). Prior to serving as Commissioner, Burt was a senior partner at Foley Hoag and the first woman to serve on the firm’s elected executive committee.
William Chandler is director of the Energy and Climate Program at the Carnegie Endowment in Washington, DC, and president of Transition Energy. Chandler recently co-founded DEED, Ltd., which builds clean energy power plants in China. Chandler previously served as director of Advanced International Studies at Battelle, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, where he was senior staff scientist and laboratory fellow. Chandler has been adjunct professor of international relations in energy and environment at Johns Hopkins University since 1992.
Amy L. Edwards is a Partner in the Public Policy and Regulation Group for Holland & Knight, LLP in Washington, DC, where she serves as co-chair for the firm’s national Environment Team as well as its Military Installation Redevelopment Team. She routinely counsels developers, lenders and corporations about effective strategies for structuring real estate and corporate transactions to minimize environmental and financial risk.
Peter Lehner is the Executive Director of Natural Resources Defense Council in Washington, DC, where he is responsible for guiding the Council’s policy positions and advocacy strategies, supervising litigation, and managing NRDC’s seven offices. Before returning to NRDC, Peter served as chief of the Environmental Protection Bureau of the New York State Attorney General’s office for eight years. Peter previously served at NRDC as a senior attorney in charge of the water program.
Tom Mounteer, a partner at Paul Hastings LLP, in Washington, DC, helps businesses comply with state and federal environmental laws for controlling air and water pollution and for managing and cleaning up solid and hazardous waste. Since 1997, Mr. Mounteer has been an adjunct professor in the master?s in environmental law program at George Washington University Law School.
Martha L. Rees is the Vice President and Assistant General Counsel for the DuPont Corporation in Wilmington, DE, where she began her career as a research engineer in 1973. Ms. Rees’ legal experience includes representing pharmaceuticals and agricultural products businesses, as a corporate and securities lawyer, special projects assignments focusing on product liability prevention as a federal lobbyist, and as an Associate General Counsel.
The Honorable Daniel Weinstein (Ret.), of San Francisco, CA, is one of the nation’s preeminent mediators of complex civil disputes. He is a pioneer in the development of mediation and teaches and lectures to fellow mediators and lawyers throughout the United States. He served on the Superior Court of San Francisco from 1982 to 1988, and as Associate Justice Pro Tem, California Supreme Court and the First District Court of Appeal and in Municipal Court of San Francisco.
