Facilitated Migration as Mitigation

Volume 32, Issue 4, Page 26
Summary

In a previous column, I suggested that climate change could and should transform the way we think of mitigation, which has conventionally been focused on replacing lost habitat with created, enhanced, or preserved habitat of like kind and value on a real-time basis. My point was that as ecosystems unravel with climate change and species migrate to more favorable locations, conventional mitigation may be pointless for some species and resources in the long run.
