The Dammed Missouri: Prospects for Recovering Lewis and Clark’s River

Volume 36, Issue 5, Page 19
Summary

The Missouri River today is much changed from the time of Lewis and Clark due to multiple dams
and reservoirs, the clearing of riparian forests, introduction of insect pests and diseases, and changes
to the flow and sediment regime. These changes have led to a disruption of the forest ecology and
threaten the future of this diverse ecosystem.
