Each summer, ELI convenes a complimentary seminar series that offers an introduction to the legal and policy foundations of environmental protection in the United States. ELI's Summer School is a series of seminars taught by experts in their fields, introducing the audience to important areas of environmental law. Faculty will also incorporate major regulatory and judicial updates to the laws.

Basics of Energy Law and the Energy Transition

Because energy law and environmental law are becoming increasingly intertwined, this Summer School session will introduce participants to the legal and regulatory framework of energy law in the United States. Panelists will also discuss the energy transition – the energy sector’s shift away from energy based on fossil fuels to energy based on renewable sources with the goal of producing zero carbon emissions – and how recent legislation has impacted the energy sector.

Other topics to be explored include:

  • U.S. energy infrastructure;
  • energy markets;
  • sources of fuel (including renewable sources);
  • regulatory agencies; and
  • related laws and policies, including the Inflation Reduction Act.

Materials will be posted as they are received.
A recording of this session will be posted to this page, usually within three business days of the live event.
