Journey Lipscomb
Research Associate

Journey joined the Environmental Law Institute as a Research Associate in August 2024. She supports the Climate Judiciary Project and contributes to ELI's work on climate resilience and hazard mitigation. One of her current projects focuses on encouraging the uptake of nature-based solutions for flood risk reduction by promoting coordination between natural resource experts and hazard mitigation planners. She has also been involved with the Wetlands Program's work on wetland compensatory mitigation and contributed to the Environmental Law Reporter's State Updates.

Prior to joining ELI, Journey was involved with a variety of research projects at the intersection of local environmental justice issues and politics while completing her undergraduate degree in Claremont, California. As a fellow at the Robert Redford Conservancy for Southern California Sustainability, Journey worked closely with the Frontline Observer, a local environmental justice newspaper, to research conflicts of interest related to warehouse development among city councilmembers around the Inland Empire. She also collaborated with a professor on a research project evaluating the social-psychological and political factors responsible for the gap between climate risk perceptions and support for climate-forward policy among Los Angeles residents. Interested in the ways that legal and political processes can advance community-centered climate solutions, Journey's senior thesis focused on the emerging use of the law within the Climate Justice Movement.

Journey graduated from Pitzer College in 2024 with a BA in Environmental Analysis and Political Studies.
