Angeles Murgier

Angeles Murgier, head of the Environmental Law practice at Beccar Varela in Buenos Aires, Argentina, has over 20 years of experience in environmental issues.

She focuses on general environmental counseling, including regulatory, permitting and compliance issues. She also works on the environmental law aspects of corporate transactions, performs environmental due diligence, compliance audits and participates in environmental litigation. She also has ample experience in corporate law.


Angeles acts as Chair of the Environment, Health and Safety Law Committee of the Section on Energy, Environment, Natural Resources and Infrastructure Law (SEERIL) of the International Bar Association and is SEERIL Council member. She is also member of the Board of Advisors of The Ocean Foundation. Angeles represents Beccar Varela at the Climate Change Group of the UN Global Compact Network Argentina, is a member of the Buenos Aires Bar Association, the Environmental Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in Argentina (AmCham), and the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation (being part of the Environmental & CSR/Sustainability Committee for the Special Institute on International Mining and Oil & Gas, Development, and Investment).

Angeles has been recognized by Chambers Latin America, Who’s Who Legal, Legal 500 and Best Lawyers. She is the only Environmental lawyer in Argentina included in the publication Who’s Who Legal: Thought Leaders - Global Elite 2020.

Angeles graduated from the Argentine Catholic University in March 2000. During 2001 she attended the International Career Associates Program at the Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies of the University of California in San Diego with coursework on Trade and the Environment in Latin America and Policy Issues in Sustainable Development. In June 2008, she attended the Summer Program of Environmental Law at the American University Washington College of Law (Washington, DC). In 2015 she completed the Executive Training Program on Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Business, organized by the Social Innovation Center and the Business Education Center of Universidad de San Andres, with the support of the AmCham.

She has participated in conferences in Argentina and abroad. She is the author of several articles and publications on environmental issues, including the Argentina chapter for the ABA Book “International Environmental Law: The Practitioner's Guide to the Laws of the Planet”. In March 2017 and January 2020 Angeles co-chaired the Environmental Summit of the Americas, a joint initiative of the ABA SEER and IBA SEERIL.


She is a professor in the specialization in Environmental Law at the Universidad Católica Argentina, Buenos Aires, where she currently lives with her husband and son.
