Ambereen Shaffie
Ambereen is a Staff Attorney at the Environmental Law Institute, where she focuses on international environmental law issues, rule of law, and sustainable development, as well as various domestic environmental issues. Prior to joining ELI, she worked at the Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development on the Montreal Protocol Amendment and Paris Agreement, concentrating on Middle East and Southeast Asian countries. Prior to that, she also clerked at the D.C. Superior Court, and litigated Superfund issues in private practice. She holds a B.A. in Economics and International Studies (with honors) from the University of Kansas, a J.D. from the University of Kansas, and an LL.M. in International and Comparative Law from the American University in Cairo, Egypt. In her civic life she runs an interfaith group, and engages in community building and organizing, for which she also consults. She also maintains a pro bono practice related to family law and domestic violence and abuse.
