John Hare-Grogg joined Environmental Law Institute as a Research Associate in October, 2016. He contributes research, writing, and administrative support to a wide variety of Institute activities, including projects focused on employing new technologies to improve regulatory efficacy, removing barriers to public interest litigation in other countries, and developing unconventional learning tools that will help communities strengthen their resilience to environmental crises. Before ELI, John conducted environmental health research and outreach in Dallas, Texas, and León, Nicaragua; helped push for environmental civil rights enforcement during an internship at Earthjustice; and provided laboratory analysis for a major research effort at Duke assessing the impacts of small scale gold mining in Peru. John is originally from North Carolina and holds a B.A. from Duke University, summa cum laude, in Environmental Science & Policy and Global Health.
