The Research and Policy Division works with local and regional partners, in the United States and worldwide, to strengthen environmental laws, to develop new theories and practical approaches to ensure their effectiveness, and to improve the capacity of citizens and governments to use the law to protect the environment.
Improve the quality, sustainability, and use of water resources by developing integrated and responsive water supply and protection systems.
Promoting sustainable land use to meet human needs and protect the diversity of plants, animals, and natural communities.
Developing integrated and innovative decisionmaking and governance approaches to new or entrenched environmental problems and changing technologies and economies.
Improving framework laws and provide training, tools and support to citizens’ organizations, government officials, business environmental managers, communities, and indigenous peoples, working with partners in Africa, India, Latin America, and the Middle East, to secure the benefits of sustainable development.
