On Thursday June 12, 2003 ELI held an Associate Seminar, co-sponsored by Farella Braun + Martel LLP, GeoSntec Consultants and SLR International Corp, in San Francisco to explore the developing investigation requirements for vapor intrusion from VOCs, and the potential impacts for sites in California. William Futrell (President, ELI) made opening remarks regarding evironmental policy for 2003 and beyond. Following this was a panel discussion, moderated by Robert L. Hines (Farella Braun + Martel LLP). Roger Brewer (RWQCB, San Francisco Bay Region) presented an overview of the developing investigative requirements and the regional board perspective. Mark Stelljes (Ph. D. Toxicologist, SLR International Corp) spoke on the new cancer potencies for TCE and PCE, including the impacts on vapor intrusion risk evaluations. Todd McAlary (Hydrogeologist, GeoSyntec Consultants) discussed strategies for site-specific assessments, including how to protect oneself from hidden traps.
