Completing a successful brownfield remediation is a complex undertaking requiring attention to reducing risk, both to human health and financial investment. New legal and financial tools to expedite this process include new market tax credits and the Uniform Environmental Covenants Act, which the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws approved in 2003.

The Environmental Law Institute and Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP hosted a panel discussion that addressed these and related cutting-edge tools in brownfield redevelopment. Panelists included Donna Ducharme (Co-Director, Delta Institute), Eileen Furey (Associate Regional Counsel and Brownfields Expert, USEPA Region 5), John Pendergrass (Senior Attorney and Co-Director of the Brownfields Center, Environmental Law Institute), and Jacqueline Vidmar (Partner and Vice Chair Environmental Practice Group, Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP).
