The ELI Land & Biodiversity Program works to promote the sustainable use of land through development and support of policies that meet human needs while protecting the diversity of plants, animals, and natural communities. Led by Senior Attorney James McElfish, and Senior Science & Policy Analyst Jessica Wilkinson, the Program focuses on three objectives:

• Advance sustainable land use by integrating development and infrastructure decisionmaking with long term environmental resource goals;
• Advance biodiversity conservation by applying the best science and policy tools to land use decisions; and
• Prevent and respond to habitat damage and loss from invasive species.
• Conserve ecosystem services through compensatory mitigation programs, market-based approaches, and ecosystem-based governance and management frameworks.
