Meeting of The Environmental Law Institute’s Corporate In-House Counsel and EHS Officers Council

The ELI Environmental Health and Safety Council is a growing ELI initiative exclusively with and for corporate EHS and sustainability lawyers and colleagues across sectors to help proactively develop corporate governance in an age of increased environmental accountability, liability, and risk. This convening presents a unique opportunity for in-house EHS lawyers and officials to learn from leaders in this space and converse among peers on best practices and practical considerations for mitigating risks and ensuring EHS compliance in a rapidly emerging and unpredictable environment, achieving cost and efficiency gains, and advancing larger social and community objectives.

To kick off this meeting, ELI President Scott Fulton provided opening remarks and introduced Matthew Leopold, the United States Environmental Protection Agency General Counsel, who provided a presentation followed by an open question and answer session.

Following the conversation with Mr. Leopold, this convening focused on the challenges of managing environmental compliance during two common but particularly complex situations: the operation of a corporate global supply chain, and corporate business development decisions such as mergers, acquisitions, and dispositions. Participants had ample opportunity to learn from both leading panelists and each other effective, time-proven methods to navigate successful outcomes and avoid potential pitfalls during these complex management situations.
