Each October the U.S. Supreme Court begins a new term. And each October ELI holds an Associate Seminar with some of the pre-eminent experts on environmental law and the Court to examine the docketed cases and discuss the ramifications of the cases decided in the most recently concluded term. Most of the seminar focused on the potentially significant cases for environmental law in the Court’s upcoming term including, but not limited to, Engine Manufacturers Ass’n v. South Coast Air Quality, Alaska Dept of Environmental Conservation v. EPA, South Florida Water Management v. Miccosukee Tribe and Virginia v. Maryland. There was also brief dialogue about the noteworthy cases from the last Term, including Borden Ranch v. US Army COE, Norfolk & Western Ry and Washington Legal Foundation v. Legal Foundation of WA.

Richard Lazarus (Georgetown University Law School Professor, and columnist for “In the Courts” in ELI’s The Environmental Forum) and Norman Fichthorn (Partner, Hunton & Williams) participated in this timely discussion, which was moderated by Scott Schang (Senior Attorney, ELI).
