Summer School: Products Regulation

Co-sponsored by:
The Environmental Law Institute &
DC Bar’s Environment, Energy and Natural Resources Section

Each summer the ELI Summer School holds a series of seminars about the legal foundations of environmental protection in the United States. The series begins with an afternoon careers seminar and networking event, and continues with weekly lunchtime seminars that are taught by experts working in major arenas of environmental law and policy: air, water, land use, hazardous sites/substances, products, and climate change.

Who should attend: summer associates, law clerks and interns, as well as anyone who wants an introduction to the building blocks of environmental law and policy.

The life cycle of products, especially manufacturing and consumer products, has gained increasing attention with growing awareness of potential problems with the human health and environmental implications of the discard of the product after the end of its useful life. We looked at the regulation of chemicals that are used in products, and the new governance and stewardship initiatives that are being considered by a wide variety of stakeholders to make the entire life cycle of products cleaner and safer, in the context of an increasingly globalized environment.

Faculty:
Lynn Bergeson, Bergeson & Campbell, P.C
