International Energy Agency Update on Climate Issues

Neil Hirst, Director for Energy Technology and R&D at the International Energy Agency, and Michael Taylor, Analyst at the International Energy Agency, presented the IEA’s latest report, Legal Aspects of Storing CO2. Mr. Hirst manages over 30 staff to provide strategic advice and technology insights to the G8 Program of Work on the next generation of clean energy technologies. Mr. Hirst will discuss a variety of climate related topics, including key conclusions from the recent German summit of the G8, preparations for next year’s Japan summit, and IEA’s new reports on Legal Aspects of Storing CO2 and Tracking Industrial Energy Efficiency and CO2 Emissions.

Mr. Hirst has over 30 years of experience in the UK government and international organizations, including Head, Energy Markets Unit of the Department of Trade and Industry; Energy Counsellor at the British Embassy in the United States; and secondment to Goldman Sachs.
