Convening Naturally Green Planning Experts

The Naturally Green Planning Program works closely with conservation biologists and land-use planners to develop and implement integrated research, outreach, and education activities designed to promote nature-friendly planning.

Featured Areas of Expertise and Resources:

  • Coordinating Experts. ELI has been coordinating a group of academics at the top of the planning and conservation biology professions to develop a series of research articles designed to advance the integration of conservation science and land-use planning. The group presented these ideas in a symposium at the 2010 annual meeting of the Society for Conservation Biology.

  • Conservation Thresholds Wingspread Conference (2007): ELI convened an historic assemblage of leaders and academics from the planning, conservation biology, and conservation policy professions at the Wingspread Conference Center. The conference yielded a summary report, Conservation Thresholds for Land Use Planners: Top Implementation Strategies (2007), which outlines robust and measurable implementation strategies that support development and application of science-based conservation thresholds.

Related ELI Project Areas: Sustainable Use of Land; Naturally Green Planning; Invasive Species; Ecosystem Services; Biodiversity Conservation.
