Vanderbilt Law School Student Wins Constitutional Environmental Law Writing Competition

Megan McLean, a third-year student at Vanderbilt Law School, has been named the winner of the Environmental Law Institute’s 2015–2016 Beveridge & Diamond Constitutional Environmental Law Writing Competition. Ms. McLean will receive a $2000 award, a one-year membership to ELI, and publication of her article in the Environmental Law Reporter (ELR®), ELI’s flagship journal and the most often-cited law review covering environmental and natural resource issues.

A Message from ELI President Scott Fulton on Earth Day

On behalf of the Environmental Law Institute, I would like to wish a happy Earth Day to one and all. Lady Bird Johnson once said, “The environment is where we all meet; where all have a mutual interest; it is the one thing all of us share.” In our celebration of Earth Day at the Institute, we are reflecting on the world community’s collective engagement in addressing environmental issues. Our own activities today extend far from our headquarters in Washington, DC.

In remembrance of Henry Diamond, 2015 ELI award honoree and environmental giant

It is with deep sadness that ELI learned our 2015 Environmental Achievement Award Honoree, Henry Diamond, founding partner of Beveridge and Diamond and one of the leading lights of our profession, passed away Sunday, February 21st at the Washington Hospital Center. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Henry's family and to the people of Beveridge and Diamond as they contend with this loss. Henry was a great friend to all who had the good fortune to know him. We are glad we were able to honor his work and his life in what proved to be his final months.

Interview With ELI President Scott Fulton on the Judicial Stay of Obama’s Clean Power Plan

The U.S. Supreme Court last week issued a judicial stay of President Obama’s signature climate change policy, the Clean Power Plan (CPP). The decision halts further implementation of the proposed restrictions on carbon emissions from fossil fuel-fired electric-generating units until completion of the expedited, 27-state challenge pending before the D.C. Circuit.
