Major Pharmaceutical Executive Joins ELI Leadership Council

ELI welcomes Alan Horowitz to the ELI Leadership Council.  Alan is Vice President of Global Operations Compliance at AstraZeneca, a major international research-based biopharmaceutical company. Alan’s team leads the development and implementation of the AstraZeneca global compliance management and assurance program. Alan also serves on the board of Stauffer Management Company, an AstraZeneca affiliate responsible for managing the company’s legacy contaminated property-related liabilities. Alan is based at AstraZeneca’s U.S. headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware. An environmental attorney by trade, Alan spent three years (2006-09) in Britain leading AstraZeneca’s global safety, health, and environment (SHE) strategy. During that time, he led the development of the company’s current five-year SHE strategy and performance plan and established the AstraZeneca SHE policy and standard framework. Prior to that, Alan served as the company's global environmental, health and safety counsel. Before joining AstraZeneca in 1997, Alan practiced environmental law in Washington, D.C. at Fried Frank (1992-96) and Paul Hastings (1996-97). Outside of work, Alan’s interests include American political history, running, tennis, coaching youth baseball, and otherwise satisfying his passion for adventure and travel. Alan is also President of the Board of Directors of Jewish Family Services of Delaware. Alan has served on the ELI board of directors since December, 2012. He is a graduate of the State University of New York at Binghamton and the American University Washington College of Law. The ELI Leadership Council is the Institute’s group for the most prominent environment, energy, and natural resource leaders in the nation. The Council recognizes leaders for their commitment of resources and time to the Institute’s vision of a healthy environment, prosperous economies, and vibrant communities founded on the rule of law. Members participate in a series of events and engage with other leaders in discussions about key environmental law and policy issues.
