Latham & Watkins Partner Barrett Joins ELI Leadership Council

The Leadership Council, Environmental Law Institute, proudly announces its selection of James Barrett as a member of the Council. Mr. Barrett, a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Latham & Watkins, is a demonstrated leader in environment and energy law.  As Vice Chair of the firm’s Environmental Transactional Support Practice, he has provided counseling and services to private equity and strategic company clients spanning a broad spectrum of industries, particularly in the energy, aerospace and transportation sectors. Mr. Barrett’s practice also focuses on large project development matters, such as the development, licensing and financing of new liquefied natural gas and power generation assets.

He has particular expertise with cases concerning the Clean Air Act and various solid and hazardous waste laws, including CERCLA. In connection with large project financings, Mr. Barrett also has significant experience and expertise regarding the application of the “Equator Principles” and the International Finance Corporation’s Environmental and Social Performance Standards to such projects. He has published a number of articles and has spoken publicly on environmental due diligence and the impact of new regulatory requirements affecting the power industry.

The ELI Leadership Council is the Institute’s group for the most prominent environment, energy, and natural resource leaders in the nation. The Council recognizes leaders for their commitment of resources and time to the Institute’s vision of a healthy environment, prosperous economies, and vibrant communities founded on the rule of law. Members participate in events and have a chance to network and engage other leaders in discussions about key environmental law and policy issues.
