Fred Anderson, First ELI President, Passes

July 2014
It is with great sadness that the Environmental Law Institute acknowledges the death of Fred Anderson, the first President of ELI. Fred was an acclaimed NGO President, Law Dean, and novelist. From 1970-1980, Fred served as the first Editor-in-Chief of the Environmental Law Reporter and as President of ELI. His great vision and energy set the foundation for the highly respected, international organization that ELI has become. Fred also served as the Dean and Professor at American University Washington College of Law, as  the Board Chair of the Center for International Environmental Law, and for the Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development. He was a Partner with McKenna, Long & Aldridge LLP. “Fred Anderson,” said John C. Cruden, President, ELI, “was a great visionary who dedicated his life to improving the planet. His creative abilities set ELI on a great path forward. We honor his many accomplishments and will miss a dear friend.”
