Wayne S. Balta is the Vice President of Corporate Environmental Affairs and Product Safety at IBM Corporation where he has global responsibility for environmental affairs, energy efficiency, chemical management and toxicology, as well as product safety and related hardware compliance functions. He joined IBM in 1984 as project manager for design and construction in the real estate and construction division. In 1989, he became assistant to the corporate vice president in charge of real estate.
He became Director of Corporate Environmental Programs in 1992 and assumed his present position in 2001. He is a member and past Chairman of The Conference Board’s Chief Environment, Health & Safety Officers Council, and a member of the Board of Directors and past Chairman of the Board of the World Environment Center. He is a member of the President’s Advisory Board for Civil & Environmental Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, as well as the Dean of Engineering’s Advisory Council at Carnegie Mellon.
Mr. Balta is also a member of the Strategic Advisory Council for the University of Michigan’s Erb Institute for Global Sustainable Enterprise. Mr. Balta holds engineering degrees from Carnegie Mellon University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
