"I am proud to be associated with ELI because it is the premier organization of environmental professionals in the country. ELI has consistently been at the forefront in the worldwide development of environmental law. I particularly enjoy my association with the ELI Council of Partners because it enables me to gain a global perspective of the issues I deal with in my practice. I joined the Council of Partners in the hope that I could make a personal contribution to the fulfillment of ELI’s mission."

William H. Hyatt, Jr. is a partner in the Newark, New Jersey office of K&L Gates, concentrating in environmental law and related litigation. Over the last 40 years, Bill has developed one of the leading environmental practice groups in the Eastern United States. He has extensive experience in Superfund and has frequently acted as common or shared counsel representing groups of parties before the Environmental Protection Agency and counterpart state regulatory agencies, and in cost recovery and contribution litigation. He has served as common, shared and individual counsel at many of the most significant Superfund sites, including four of the top six sites listed on the NPL, more than 25 Superfund sites in New Jersey and Superfund sites in 10 other states. He was also selected as a pilot allocator in EPA's Superfund administrative reforms.

Bill has negotiated landmark settlements with EPA and the Department of Justice and has mediated complex allocation disputes both as a special master and as a mediator. He has been instrumental in developing innovative case management techniques for multi-party cases and has successfully negotiated consent decrees and other settlements with the federal and state governments containing precedent - setting provisions.

Bill lectures widely on environmental topics, including natural resource damages and the management of complex litigation, to such diverse groups as bar associations, trade groups, engineering and environmental law students and a forum for federal district and circuit court judges.

Bill is included in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers to Business and Euromoney's Guide to the World's Leading Environmental Lawyers.
