Green Paradise: How Using Green Infrastructure Can Handle Combined Sewer Overflows, Save Money, and Make a City More Livable

Ballard Spahr LLP, Environmental Law Institute, and Pennoni Associates Inc.

More than 770 local governments across the country are required by federal law to reduce and manage overflows from combined sewer systems. These governments will need substantial capital to install the pipes and facilities necessary to comply. Green infrastructure can achieve the same results at a fraction of the cost.

At this seminar, we reviewed Philadelphia’s Green City, Clean Waters Program, explored what is being done elsewhere, and learned how other cities can benefit from this unique program. Philadelphia Water Department Commissioner Howard Neukrug delivered the keynote address.
