Mitigation Banking Interagency Review Team Training Course

June 9-13, 2008, The National Conservation Training Center,Shepherdstown, West Virginia. This course is designed to increase the effectiveness of Interagency Review Teams (IRTs) in reviewing proposed mitigation banks and overseeing their operation. New policies guiding compensatory mitigation conducted under §404 of the Clean Water Act will further institutionalize the role of mitigation bank IRTs in overseeing the establishment and management of mitigation banks. Members of IRTs include regional representatives from a variety of federal agencies and, where appropriate, tribal, state, and local regulatory and resource agencies. This course is designed to increase the effectiveness of IRTs in reviewing mitigation proposals and overseeing the operation of mitigation banks.

Course Objectives:

The five-day session is designed to provide participants with:

  • A thorough grounding in the relevant federal policy and regulations guiding mitigation bank review, establishment, and management;
  • Solid expertise in how to effectively and efficiently review and oversee mitigation bank establishment and operation; and
  • The leadership skills necessary to be an effective member of an interagency mitigation bank review team.
