This Web page provides a guide to additional online resources on the impacts of the oil spill and response and restoration efforts.

Government Resources

• RestoreTheGulf.gov. The federal government’s main portal for information about the oil spill response and recovery.

• The websites for the economics settlement and the medical settlement claims. These websites contain information about the two settlements reached in 2012 between BP and the Plaintiffs' Steering Committee regarding economic loss and medical benefits claims.

• National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Spill and Offshore Drilling. The official website of the independent commission responsible for examining the causes of the oil spill and recommending steps to prevent future disasters. Click here to read the commission's final report to the president (January 2011).

• Gulf Spill Restoration by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The official website of the federal agency leading the damage assessment, remediation and restoration planning.

• America’s Gulf Coast: A Long Term Recovery Plan after the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill (September 2010). Navy Secretary Ray Mabus’ report on economic and ecosystem recovery in the Gulf region, which was written at the request of President Obama.

• Civil Complaint: United States of America v. BP Exploration & Production Inc. (December 2010). The Department of Justice's complaint in its civil suit against BP and eight other defendants.

Court Resources

• Public Access to Court Electronic Records (PACER). Information from the docket of any case in federal courts. Fees apply, but the first $10 of fees each quarter are waived.

• The Eastern District of Louisiana. Current developments in the multidistrict litigation, 10-MDL-2179 In re: Oil Spill by the Oil Rig "Deepwater Horizon" in the Gulf of Mexico, on April 20, 2010.

• Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation. The official website of the body responsible for transferring cases in federal court so that similar issues can be decided by a single judge.

News and Independent Analysis

• Online Clearinghouse for Education & Networking: Oil Interdisciplinary Learning (OCEAN-OIL). The National Council for Science and the Environment's peer-reviewed clearinghouse includes more than 1,000 encyclopedia articles, a photo gallery, publication-quality graphs, and a glossary.

• Sea Grant's Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico Site. A compilation of links covering recent developments, claims information, human health, seafood safety, dispersants, economic value, response/recovery, educational information, and the Exxon Valdez.

• Deepwater Disaster: Blow by Blow. An animated feature that chronicles the 100 days after the blowout. An interactive map illustrates the extent of oil slicks, fishing closures and more.
