In July 2007, the State of Maryland appointed ELI to serve on the Adaptation and Response Working Group of the Maryland Climate Change Commission. The Working Group is charged with identifying options for adapting to climate change, particularly in the coastal region of the state. The Working Group is initially considering options for improving adaptation to climate change in the following areas: existing and future built environment and infrastructure; human health, safety, and welfare; and resources and resource-based industries.
