The Environmental Effects of War
ELI Senior Attorney Carl Bruch spoke with Jerry Kay on “Week In Review,” a production of Icicle Networks®, on the possible harmful environmental outcomes of the current war in Iraq. After the first Persian Gulf War, Bruch and Senior Attorney Jay Austin began researching the environmental consequences of war. In 1999, Bruch and Austin co-authored a 1999 research brief entitled, The Greening of Warfare: Developing International Law and Institutions to Limit Environmental Damage During Armed Conflict. And in 2000, they contributed to and edited a book entitled The Environmental Consequences of War: Legal, Economic and Scientific Perspectives, which focused in part on the effects of Desert Storm.
