U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to Receive Environmental Law Institute’s Annual Award
The Environmental Law Institute is pleased to announce that it will honor the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency with the 2010 ELI Award for Achievement in Environmental Law, Policy and Management. The Award recognizes the agency during its 40th anniversary year for outstanding achievement in protecting human health and the environment and for its leadership of the nation’s environmental science, research, education, and assessment efforts. The Honorable Lisa P. Jackson, EPA Administrator, will accept the award on behalf of EPA and make remarks. Joining in the presentation will be William K. Reilly, Administrator of EPA from 1989-1993, who will make remarks and introduce Ms. Jackson.
“EPA has played a preeminent role in the development and implementation of environmental law in the United States,” stated ELI President Leslie Carothers. “Members of the environmental profession who gather at the ELI dinner have all played a part in its work. Many of us are proud EPA veterans. ELI looks forward to celebrating the agency’s vital mission to secure a sustainable future.”
Achievements of the U.S. EPA:
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency was established in 1970 to consolidate in one agency a variety of federal research, monitoring, standard-setting and enforcement activities to ensure environmental protection. EPA’s mission is to protect human health and to safeguard the natural environment—air, water, and land—upon which life depends. For more than 30 years, the EPA has been working for a cleaner, healthier environment for the American people. The links below provide a detailed history of the agency’s many milestones:
