Sara Kendall, Vice President of Corporate Affairs & Sustainability for the Weyerhaeuser Company, presents the Weyerhaueser Company Foundation’s $10,000 New Vision Fund grant award to Leslie Carothers. |
ELI is pleased to announce the completion of Phase One of its New Vision Fund campaign, raising $500,000 in gifts and pledges over and above current funding. Started during the Institute’s 40th anniversary year in 2009, the Fund is helping ELI invest in the most promising programs to address today’s environmental challenges and challenges of coming decades. One of the biggest weaknesses of our legal framework is its inability to protect the global commons. The global commons, consisting of Antarctica, the high seas and deep seabed, the atmosphere, and space, are increasingly accessible resource domains and represent a profound challenge for international law and institutions. ELI staff and leaders have recognized that new policy and legal frameworks are required, and we are focusing on developing innovative implementation of legal and policy strategies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and foster improved governance of long-neglected ocean resources.
The Institute would like to thank the many supporters and friends who made this success possible. ELI is grateful to the New Vision Fund Director’s Circle ($25,000 and higher) members: Leslie Carothers, Howard M. Holtzmann, Stanley W. Legro, and the David and Lucile Packard Foundation. ELI is also grateful to New Vision President’s Circle ($10,000 and higher) members: Paul E. Hagen, Douglas H. Keare, Angus Macbeth, Roger and Victoria Sant, Tyco International, and the Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation. This effort would not have succeeded without our New Vision Fund Committee members who, in addition to their own giving, provided advice and reached out to friends across the United States: Kenneth Berlin, Leslie Carothers, John H. Claussen, William Eichbaum, Paul Hagen, Christopher Locke, Angus Macbeth, and Kathy E.B. Robb.
