Position Description
Development Associate Special Events “Temp”
The Environmental Law Institute (ELI) is seeking a Development Associate Special Events “Temp” to assist with the Institute’s October 19, 2010 annual Award Dinner in Washington, DC. The expected period of employment is August 2 through October 29, 2010.
The Institute is an internationally recognized, independent research and education center which plays a pivotal role in environmental law, policy, and management both domestically and internationally. The 2010 ELI Award Dinner will honor the United States Environmental Protection Agency during its 40 th Anniversary year for outstanding achievement in protecting human health and the environment and for its leadership of the nation’s environmental science, research, education, and assessment efforts. Over 750 environmental professionals (including cabinet officers and senior U.S. Government officials) will attend.
The Development Associate Special Events Temp reports to ELI’s Vice President for Development and works closely with the organization’s off-site Director of Membership Development who directs the Award Dinner.
Responsibilities:
Assist with the Institute’s annual Award Dinner including solicitation, pledge tracking, seating assignment, volunteer coordination, and event registration.
Award Dinner events consist of a 3:30 p.m. policy forum (directed by another Department); two 6:00-7:00 p.m. receptions (one for Star Sponsors); and a 750-person seated dinner with an award presentation.
Skills and Qualifications:
- BA or BS degree; past experience in non-profit organization fundraising dinner events.
- Strong verbal and written communication and computer and Website skills.
- Strong planning and organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks.
- A “can do” attitude and a willingness to pitch in where needed.
