Position Description

Development Intern

For four decades, the Environmental Law Institute (ELI; www.eli.org) has played a pivotal role in shaping the fields of environmental law, policy, and management both domestically and internationally.

ELI seeks an individual to support the Institute’s Development Office. The Development Intern will work directly with the Vice President for Development and the Senior Director of Development and Special Events to help secure the resources needed to meet future environmental challenges. A major focus will be the upcoming ELI Award Dinner, one of the premier environmental events held each year in the nation’s capital. This year’s event will take place Tuesday, October 22 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington.

The Development Intern’s activities relating to the event and other Development priorities include: assisting with donor outreach through emails, mailings, and phone calls; contacting U.S. Government Departments and officials about participation in ELI events; and assisting with all aspects of donor recognition and recordkeeping.

ELI integrates interns into day-to-day operations of the Institute and encourages intern attendance at ELI policy events and meetings on a variety of topics, including the renowned ELI Summer School introductory seminars designed to teach interns and law clerks about the legal foundations of environmental protection.

The 20 hour per week position is available from May 20 through August 16 and we are looking for someone who could continue interning 10 hours per week thru October. Candidates should possess strong writing and interpersonal communication skills, as well as a desire to learn about the nonprofit sector and the environmental field. A strong academic background is required, but specific environmental or development experience is not necessary. Applicants must have completed freshman year of college. Compensation is not available but a small transportation stipend is provided.

To apply, send a cover letter explaining interest and availability, and a résumé (including overall
GPA) to:
