Edward L. Strobehn

Edward L. Strobehn Jr.

Of Counsel, Bingham McCutchen LLP, San Francisco, CA

Edward Strohbehn has worked to advance environmental law and policy since graduating from law school: as co-founder and attorney with the Natural Resources Defense Council; as Executive Director of the Council on Environmental Quality in the Executive Office of the President; and as Chairman of the Board of the Environmental Law Institute and a Director of Resources for the Future. In 2010 he and three classmates were awarded the Yale Law School’s highest honor — the Yale Law School Association Award of Merit. They were cited for their pioneering role in founding the Natural Resources Defense Council and for their extraordinary careers in environmental law. In 2011, he was elected to the American College of Environmental Lawyers. In April 2013, he, along with two co-authors, was selected by The Burton Awards to receive one of the 2013 Distinguished Legal Writing Awards. He is a member of the Leadership Council of the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies. He was a law clerk to then retired US Supreme Court Chief Justice Earl Warren.

At Bingham he provides strategic advice and represents clients in environmental compliance, permitting, enforcement, and business planning matters, including complex and novel site remediation matters and corporate stock and asset acquisitions, and counsels clients on compliance and business implications of environmental regulations. He is named a leading lawyer in environmental law in Best Lawyers in America and Legal 500 US and is listed in Super Lawyers, Northern California (2004-2012). He received a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Yale College, a Master of Arts degree from the Yale Graduate School, and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the Yale Law School.
