Alan Horowitz is Vice President of Global Operations Compliance at AstraZeneca, a multi-national pharmaceutical company. Alan’s team leads the development and implementation of the AZ Operations global compliance management and assurance program, which covers approximately 20 manufacturing sites and additional business functions. His substantive responsibilities span the AZ Code of Conduct, including anti-bribery & anti-corruption; business continuity & risk management; environmental health & safety; data privacy; and trade controls. Alan reports to the Chief Compliance Officer and is a member of the Global Compliance Leadership Team and Operations Senior Leadership Team. He also sits on the Board of Directors of Stauffer Management Company, an AZ affiliate responsible for managing the company’s legacy contaminated property-related liabilities. Alan is based at AZ’s US headquarters in Wilmington, DE.
An environmental attorney by trade, Alan spent 3 years (2006-09) in the UK leading the AZ Global Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) strategy and compliance function, including the SHE & Security audit program. During that time, Alan led the development of the company’s current 5-year SHE strategy and performance plan and established the AZ SHE Policy and Standard framework. Prior to that, Alan served as the company's global environmental, health and safety counsel. Before joining AZ in 1997, Alan practiced environmental law in Washington, DC at Fried Frank (1992-96) and Paul Hastings (1996-97).
Outside of work, Alan’s interests include American political history, running, tennis, coaching youth baseball and otherwise satisfying his passion for adventure and travel. Alan is also President of the Board of Directors of Jewish Family Services of Delaware.
